PUPPY OUTINGS
Puppy training outing for Saturday, January 28, 2012.
Guide Dogs of the Desert has planned a puppy training outing for January. Jack and Ruth Carey are the point of contact for this GREAT outing!
Who: All puppy raisers, breeder keepers, ambassadors and graduates are invited. Please have your puppies in their GDD jackets and wear your matching blue “Team Guide Dog T-shirts. We make quite an impression and really draw attention to our school whenever we do this.
What: A tour of the retired aircraft carrier, USS Midway, followed by lunch on the fantail of the ship. The USS Midway Museum features the Fantail Café - patio dining with a casual and friendly atmosphere. From fresh salads and fun snacks to tasty sandwiches and hearty burgers, Fantail Café’s <http://www.fantailcafe.com/> family-pleasing menu will satisfy your budget as well ($6-$11). And for those who want the real “grub,” look for menu items made from USS Midway’s 1945 cook book.
Also after the tour, a walk to Seaport Village and to the Convention Center to work the puppies on some challenging stairs and elevators.
When: Saturday, January 28, 2012, meet at 10:00 AM. We will relieve our puppies in the grassy area behind the ship prior to entering the ship. We can enter the ship anytime after 10:00 AM.
Where: The USS Midway Museum is located at 910 North Harbor Drive, San Diego, California, 92101, alongside Navy Pier.
Carpooling is recommended.
Parking There are more than 300 spaces alongside Midway on Navy Pier (owned and operated by the Port of San Diego) for vehicles only. Parking rates are:
- $5 up to 1 hour
- $7 for up to 4 hours
- $10 for up to 10 hours
- $12 for up to 12 hours
Nearby Parking
Metered spaces are available on city streets ($1.25 per hour with a 2-hour limit). Downtown San Diego features more than 50,000 parking spaces. Some are within walking distance of the USS Midway Museum. Many are a short pedicab or taxi ride away.
Cost:
Patti Wheeler has researched and is willing to pre-purchase the tickets at a discount for us.
However, there are restrictions to receive the discount prices. If people want Patti to pre-purchase discount tickets for them then she needs to receive their monies by Monday, January 23, 2012.
The checks need to be made out to and mailed to Patti Wheeler at the address below. She will give out the tickets at the Midway.
